Kumo Cloud WiFi App Setup Guide (Mitsubishi Electric)

Complete guide to connecting your Mitsubishi mini-split system to WiFi and controlling it from anywhere using the Comfort app.

Required Tools

  • Smartphone (iOS or Android)
  • 2.4 GHz WiFi network

Before You Start

Ensure you have everything needed for a successful setup.

Steps:

  1. WiFi Requirements: Must have 2.4 GHz WiFi network (Kumo Cloud does NOT support 5 GHz)
  2. Have your network name (SSID) and password ready
  3. If you have a dual-band router, you may need to create a separate 2.4 GHz network or disable band steering
  4. Mesh WiFi routers are compatible but may need separate SSIDs for 2.4/5 GHz bands

Pro Tips:

  • Mitsubishi WiFi adapter (PAC-USWHS002-WF-2 or similar) must be professionally installed on your indoor unit
  • Compatible with iOS 13.0+ and Android 5.1+

Important Warnings:

  • 5 GHz WiFi networks will NOT work - must use 2.4 GHz
  • Guest networks may not work - use your primary network

Download the App

Get the Comfort by Mitsubishi Electric app from your device's app store.

Steps:

  1. iOS: Search 'Comfort by Mitsubishi Electric' in App Store
  2. Android: Search 'Comfort by Mitsubishi Electric' in Google Play Store
  3. Install the app (older versions called 'kumo cloud' will auto-upgrade)

Create Your Account

Set up your user account to access remote control features.

Steps:

  1. Open the Comfort app
  2. Tap 'Create Account'
  3. Enter your email and create a secure password
  4. Important: Do NOT check 'I'm a Diamond Contractor' (that's for installers only)
  5. Tap 'Create Account' to submit
  6. Check your email inbox (and spam folder) for verification email
  7. Click the verification link in the email

Connect to WiFi

Link your Mitsubishi system to your home WiFi network.

Steps:

  1. Log into the Comfort app with your verified account
  2. The app will automatically search for your wireless adapter
  3. When found, select your 2.4 GHz WiFi network from the list
  4. Enter your WiFi password carefully
  5. Wait up to 5 minutes for the connection to establish
  6. The app will discover your indoor units (zones) automatically

Pro Tips:

  • Make sure you're standing near your indoor unit during setup
  • If the adapter isn't found, try restarting the app and your phone's WiFi

Configure Your Zones

Name and customize each zone for easy control.

Steps:

  1. Name each zone descriptively (e.g., 'Master Bedroom', 'Living Room', 'Office')
  2. Set temperature preferences for each zone
  3. Create schedules if desired for automated comfort
  4. Group zones together to control multiple units at once
  5. Adjust fan speeds and vane directions per zone

Key Features

Take advantage of smart control features.

Pro Tips:

  • Remote temperature, fan speed, and vane direction control from anywhere
  • Scheduling with automatic daylight saving time adjustment
  • Integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Home voice assistants
  • IFTTT support for automation with other smart home devices
  • Alerts for filter cleaning and system issues
  • WiFi signal strength monitoring in zone settings

Troubleshooting Tips

Solutions to common setup issues.

Steps:

  1. Can't find wireless interface: Ensure you're connected to 2.4 GHz WiFi (not 5 GHz), update router firmware, or create a separate 2.4 GHz network
  2. Connection drops frequently: Check WiFi signal strength in app under zone settings, consider a WiFi range extender if units are far from router
  3. Need to reconnect after changing routers: Press factory reset button on WiFi adapter and repeat provisioning process
  4. Mesh router issues: Disable band steering or use a guest network for IoT devices

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Kumo Cloud work when my internet goes out?

Yes! Your schedules are stored locally on the WiFi adapter, so your programmed schedules will continue to run even during internet outages. The system automatically reconnects when power/WiFi is restored.

Can I use Kumo Cloud with my 5 GHz WiFi network?

No, the Kumo Cloud adapter only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi networks. If you have a dual-band router, make sure you're connecting to the 2.4 GHz network (not 5 GHz).

Can multiple people control the system?

Yes! You can share access with family members through the app. Each person can download the Comfort app and create their own account, then be invited to control your zones.

Does this work with voice assistants?

Yes! Kumo Cloud integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, allowing you to control temperature with voice commands like 'Alexa, set bedroom to 72 degrees.'
