Replaced two aging R-22 packaged HVAC units serving an Oakland office property with two Rheem 5-ton units with economizers. The project followed a no-airflow complaint and diagnostic findings involving a failed control board, a suspected blower motor failure, and uncertain compressor condition.
Galaxy Heating & Air Conditioning replaced two aging packaged HVAC units at a commercial office property in Oakland. The customer initially contacted us because one of the offices was receiving no airflow.
During diagnosis of the affected equipment, the control board was not supplying voltage to the blower, and the compressor was also not running. A blower motor failure was suspected as a possible contributing cause of the control board failure. The compressor was locked out, and its ability to operate after repairs remained unconfirmed.
The existing units were old and used R-22 refrigerant. Given their age, the identified control issue, and uncertainty about additional component failures, the project proceeded with equipment replacement.
We installed two Rheem 5-ton packaged units, model RGEAYB060ACT101NA, with economizers and roof curbs. The replacement addressed the aging equipment serving the offices and provided new packaged HVAC systems with outdoor-air economizer capability.
The project included a one-year Galaxy labor warranty and a one-year manufacturer warranty, subject to the applicable terms.

The economizers provide the ability to use suitable outdoor air to assist with cooling when conditions and control settings allow.
Installation challenges and work performed
The initial troubleshooting involved multiple related symptoms: no blower operation, no voltage supplied from the control board to the blower, and a compressor lockout. This made the full extent of the existing equipment’s problems uncertain.
The completed project replaced both old R-22 packaged units with two Rheem 5-ton packaged units and included economizers and roof curbs.
