Replaced two aging, single-stage gas furnaces with Carrier Performance 80% AFUE two-stage furnaces featuring variable-speed blowers. The installation upgraded heating controls and airflow while retaining the property’s gas-fired central heating.
Galaxy Heating & Air Conditioning replaced two very old gas furnaces at a property in San Francisco. The homeowner wanted to update the existing gas-fired, forced-air central heating system.
The original furnaces were single-stage units rated at 80% AFUE. We installed Carrier Performance two-stage gas furnaces with variable-speed blowers. The selected equipment, model 58TP1B090V1716, is rated at 90,000 BTU input and 80% AFUE. The project also included furnace platform work and filter bases with filters.
The new furnaces provide two levels of heating output. They can operate at a lower stage during lighter heating demand and use the higher stage when additional heat is needed. This supports longer, gentler heating cycles and smaller temperature swings compared with single-stage operation.
Variable-speed blowers provide more flexible airflow control, while insulated blower compartments help limit operating noise. These features make the upgrade focused on heating comfort, airflow, and replacement of aging equipment. The new furnaces retain the same nominal 80% AFUE rating as the original units.
